Questions

If considering an abortion, is it necessary to have an ultrasound?

Having an ultrasound before a medical or surgical abortion is crucial because it will confirm that the pregnancy is in the uterus and confirm there is a heartbeat. Once a positive test result is verified and you are six weeks from the last menstrual period (LMP), we can proceed with performing an ultrasound.

If the pregnancy is not viable or ectopic (outside of the uterus)  it will require immediate medical attention. At this time there is no point in further decision-making.

According to the March of Dimes, approximately 15 – 25% of recognized pregnancies will end in miscarriage. More than 80% of miscarriages will occur within the first three months.

If you are considering abortion, we offer free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds and are happy to help better explain your options.
